G Makes Cameo in My Blueberry Nights. Opens Today

Don't miss "My Blueberry Nights" opens today at Studio on the Square.
Look for The Godfather's cameo in several key scenes:
-At the Arcade when Arnie (David Strathairn) walks in, G is seated at the counter (right of the screen)
-At the Arcade in the foreground of a long shot of Arnie eating his meal, G is unwrapping a straw
-At the GE Patterson bridge car crash, G is the crime photographer.

Memphis is highlighted in the movie with scenes of the Main Street Trolley and at Earnestine & Hazel's bar where Elizabeth (Norah Jones) works as a bartender.

Memorial Weekend Blast

Wow, another crazy weekend behind us !!

The Memorial Day weekend was a blast. The Dozen spent the lazy Saturday afternoon at Butler Park bluffs in full picnic mode complete with the accoutrements of summer. The airshow was amazing though we expected more jets than single prop planes. As usual, the sun set at the Mississippi river followed by a 30-minute display of super fireworks.

Sunday afternoon was equally fun. The Dozen had a BBQ/Pool Party with Brian and Carolyn M. Amidst salsa dancing, beer ponging, floating & swimming in the mini-pool, there were lots of thirst quenching beverages :), BBQ pineapples, hotdogs, burgers, grilled shrimp to go around. The grilled calamari didn't last very long to the dismay of Gary. The day ended, if it ever did, with Soul Burgers at E&H way into wee early Monday.

Blue Monkey Opens

All the rumors laid to rest, the Blue Monkey finally re-opened in Downtown Thursday. Packed with whole different crowd. The atmosphere was lively and loud. Everybody seems to be yelling in their conversations. The Dozen members were among the first to arrive and bought food and drinks. The menu had a good variety of selections of entrees and drinks. I had the Blue Moon burger which was great and a couple of beers. We stayed for a few hours and decided we will have a Blue Monkey day every week where we can enjoy the food and company. A nice addition to the SOMA neighborhood restaurant/bars. Our watering holes are getting closer and closer to home !!

$50 at the pump !!

First time in I paid $50 at the pump. What next ?? An arm and a leg ??

Indy 4 Update

Finally saw the movie "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Cyrstal Skull". Edison and Brian C went. Josh was unceremoniously absent, we later learned he was in Midtown. Esther and Gary couldn't make it.

There was a no crowd at the box office an hour before the show but eventually grew from 4 to close to 200. Two fans were wearing fedoras and aviator jackets. There were giveaways of Top trump cards and posters. We enjoyed the movie. The special effects are awesome. A perfect outing at the start of the summer movie viewing season.

The Next After Party

Everyone's excited about the Next SOMA Dirty Dozen After Party.

Still under discussion, it is planned in July after Trolley Tour Night. Among the suggested locales is the Gibson Rooftop or the Powerhouse. Snozberry will not be available that night so a local DJ or another good local band could be considered. Please send in your suggestions.

The Gibson Rooftop is a really huge place. 22,000 sq ft is almost the size of 5 basketball courts. We also need a fast bartender who can serve up to a 1000 people.

BBQ is over !!

BBQ is over !! Back to our usual antics and shenanigans !!

Edison, Gary and Brian checked out breakfast at Renee's. This is a real cool little breakfast joint giving Arcade a run for it's money. It's on corner of S Third St and G E Patterson. It's open 6am-4pm. Serves breakfast all day and some lunch specials. Had some pancakes, polish sausage and sunny side-up eggs, pretty cheap too. We may skip Arcade altogether.

Early in the evening, Edison, Robbie, Josh headed to Happy Mexican for dinner, magaritas and beer. Did you know they have a Mariachi band serenading on the weekends ? These guys can belt some heart-rending songs that you wish you could sing along with.
